Movie Review: You, Me and Dupree

He crashed weddings with Vince Vaughn last summer.  Now, Owen Wilson is crashing again this summer-- but with Matt Dillon and Kate Hudson.  You, Me and Dupree is a complicated triangle between a newlywed couple and an unexpected houseguest that won't leave.  It's not exactly a romantic comedy, but a riveting comedy none the less.

Wilson, also the movie's producer, is the irrepressible Dupree, whose sole purpose is to live and enjoy life to the fullest.  The only problem is he has no job, no money, and no place to live.  So, best friend (Dillon) offers to let Dupree stay with him and his wife, Molly (Hudson).  But what was supposed to be a couple of days becomes more than Carl and Molly can handle.  Dupree's lengthy stay causes a rift in his friendship with Carl, whose marriage to Molly is also put to the test.  Who will Carl choose: his wife or his best friend?

Owen Wilson makes Dupree lovable in the film because he shows that underneath the party animal/cool guy/bachelor lies a heart of gold.  Kate Hudson does a thankless job as the long-suffering wife who IS the girl next door.  Dillon and Michael Douglas have DeNiro-Stiller chemistry: the father-in-law who hates his new son-in-law and tries to undermine him every chance he gets, including breaking up his marriage to his little girl.

If you're looking for a movie that will help you deal with problems that you may have with one of your houseguests, then You, Me, and Dupree is the film to your solution.
