Major: History and Mass Communications

Contact Information:

I am what you call a true Floridian. I was born and raised in Miami, Florida where my passion for journalism was ignited. In high school I was a staff writer for the school newspaper and soon became a page editor. As an editor, I learned how to further develop my writing skills as well as how to copyedit and construct a layout. I competed in the Florida Scholastic Press Association’s annual forum my senior year and received honorable mention in both feature and news writing.

When I was deciding on a university, I chose to stay in my home state and go to the University of Florida where I am currently a junior double majoring in history and mass communications. I have taken extensive writing classes and have joined organizations, such as the Florida Magazine Student Association and the Society of Professional Journalists, which have enabled me to interact with other budding journalist who share the same passion for writing as I do.

I have recently become affiliated with CO-ED magazine, a national college publication, and am doing some freelance work for them through out the summer. I am also currently finishing up an internship with a public relations firm, an experience that has allowed me to interact with all facets of the media. This fall I will be an intern for my university’s oral history department, where I will be doing research as well as conducting interviews with local and state figures.

My goal after I graduate is to go on to work for a national magazine and, hopefully, one day become an editor. The kind of content that I am interested in contributing to the Student Operated Press is both feature and News stories. I have experience in both.
