Matthew Kent currently attends Southern Illinois University-Carbondale majoring in Journalism. Kent, who plans on graduating in May, has written for The Daily Eastern News, covering various events on the campus of Eastern Illinois University. He has also written for The Carbondale Times, a newspaper in Carbondale, Ill., focusing on city events and other happenings in the area. Currently, he is a freelance reporter for The Southern Illinoisan, a newspaper in Carbondale where he has written for The Southern Health Magazine, as well as The Southern Business Journal, along with special sections that accompany the newspaper on a regular basis. In addition, he is a freelance writer for The Local Buzz Magazine, a monthly arts and entertainment publication in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

After graduation, Kent is planning on going to graduate school to earn his Masters degree in English. However, journalism is a passion of his and still would like to find a job with a newspaper or magazine in the future. In his free time, he enjoys computing, music, journalism, writing, literature and digital photography.
