My name is Sharon and I'm about to embark on my fifth year at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Chamapaign. Ever since I was little, I wanted to be a writer. When other little kids were saying 'I want to be a doctor' or 'I want to be a lawyer', I was saying 'I want to be an author and write children's book'. Weird. But I grew up wanting to become a sports columnist, then when I started applying to colleges, all of a sudden it was engineering. Why? Who knows, but I came to college and quickly realized that writing was just my thing and I have been passionate about it ever since I was a sophomore.

That was around the same time I started writing for the student newspaper here, The Daily Illini. I wrote for news, features and sports. After being a staff writer for a year, I was one of the sports editors during the men's basketball Final Four run. Then I was news editor, wire editor and finally I settled on page designing. I thought that maybe I would work as an editor or designer in the newspaper world, but I was just denying my passion yet again.

I now know that writing and reporting is for me. I want to write about fashion, something I have always loved but gave it the back seat to sports. Short term-wise, I would like to be a fashion reporter for a newspaper, then eventually have my own column. After that, I want my own fashion column in a magazine. Doing some television correspondence in this field would just be the icing on the cake. Long term, I want to write for Vanity Fair or Vogue full time.

I think this website is a great opportunity for all of us budding journalists to really grow and come into our own and get great clips. I'll contribute any way I can, but if I had my choice, it would be writing about fashion: trends, do's and don'ts, the lifestyle, everything.
