I said if I had to make one goal during my college career at the University of Kansas, it would be to write for the university's newspaper. My first article for the "University Daily Kansan" was published on September 14, 2006. The third of October will present my second article for the "Kansan."
I am a student majoring in the Strategic Communications field in Journalism. Recently, I was just admitted into the University of Kansas' School of Journalism. Prior experience includes an opinion column in the "Wichita City Paper" in Wichita, Kansas as well as a contributing writer for the special sections in my university's student newspaper. I am very involved on my campus.
My activities include behind-the-scenes work for KU's KUJH news team, Public Relations Student Society of America, KU Motorcycle Club, KU for Uganda, Students for Reproductive Rights, Jayhawk Communications (mostly public relations for non-profits), KU Young Democrats, KU Advertising Club, Up 'Til Dawn (raising money for cancer research), Best Buddies (spending time with mentally disabled individuals), a volunteer at the Lawrence Humane Society, and involvement in The Writer's Association. There are so many different aspects of Journalism that whet my appetite-I love it all.
As far as goals go, I'd love to garner as much experience writing about anything that is possible. I am attracted to freelance writing and public relations but also anything involving photography or even news-especially raising awareness about important topics. I'd like to contribute in any way possible.
I strongly believe in getting out what you put in, so anything I do I give 110% and get out even more. Learning from everything is a priority to me and hopefully one day I'll be a contributing writer for "Rolling Stone" magazine.
