Congressional Bill Stimulates New Billion Dollar Space Markets

XCOR Aerospace, Inc. applauds yesterday`s passage of a landmark NASA funding authorization bill that will accelerate the commercial space transportation industry with billions of new funding for research and development, commercial crew, and other critical missions that will drive new commercial space markets. Further, the bill preserves funding for NASA`s Commercial Reusable Suborbital Research (CRuSR) program, which promotes regular, frequent, and predictable access to the edge of space at a reasonable cost with easy recovery of intact payloads which is critical to broadening the base of future space markets through low cost access to space.
The $15 million dollar per year CRuSR program will buy flights on commercial suborbital space vehicles, such as those in development by XCOR and other American space transportation companies. In addition to achieving its own technology research and development objectives, the NASA program will also demonstrate the value of suborbital research to private business and other scientific and technological user communities; work with the FAA and other regulatory agencies to achieve safe and effective access to suborbital space; and develop a commercial payload integration industry. 
"Back in the 1920s, the US government bought air-mail services from the fledgling airline companies, which stimulated investment in today`s air transportation industry. NASA`s CRuSR program follows in the footsteps of that farsighted and successful initiative," said XCOR CEO Jeff Greason. "By being an early adopter of new space transportation technologies, NASA is accelerating development of new contributors to the American economy. XCOR looks forward to the President`s signature on this bill."
XCOR expects the new NASA focus on commercial services in general and the CRuSR program in particular, to spur private demand and investment in commercial reusable suborbital space transportation.

"Private customers need this kind of research and technology development, too. NASA will lead the way in showing others how to do suborbital research and development on reusable vehicles. XCOR Aerospace is a California corporation located in Mojave, California.
