Detroit, Ore. To Change Its Name, For Obvious Reasons

By Robert Paul Reyes

"Proponents of a ballot measure to change the name of Detroit, Ore., say they want to separate the tourist town`s image from the Michigan city.

Doug DeGeorge, a builder and major proponent of the measure who worked to put it on Tuesday`s ballot, said the word "Detroit" carries a negative connotation that could be partially counteracted by changing the town`s name to Detroit Lake, The Detroit News reported Tuesday." UPI

Detroit is a name synonymous with crime and unemployment. Detroit is a failed city, and the federal government should stop injecting billions into this dystopia that will never rise from the ashes like the mythical Phoenix.

The word "Detroit" conjures up images of criminals running wild, rows and rows of abandoned houses, and homeless wandering in the streets.

The citizens of Detroit, Ore. should approve the measure to change the name of their town. Detroit depends on tourism to balance its budget, and its god-awful name isn`t good for business.

A rose by any other name..., but Detroit, Ore., would be well advised to change its name.
