Bishop Eddie Long's Church Has His Back, Sort Of
"The Atlanta megachurch where embattled pastor Bishop Eddie Long presides says it acknowledges that the pastor accompanied four young men on trips, but claims it can neither confirm nor deny whether any inappropriate acts took place."
Bishop Eddie Long has finally categorically denied that he coerced four boys into sexual relationships in a court filing on Monday. The disgraced minister contends that he was merely a mentor to the boys.
A pastoris supposed to inspire, encourage and protect his congregation, there is no sin greater for a pastor than to sexually exploit a child who is under his wing. If Long were innocent he wouldn`t have waited so long to deny the charges, he would immediately have proclaimed his innocence from his pulpit.
The muscle-bound "Man of God" may have categorically denied that he took advantage of the four boys, but his church is taking a more ambiguous stance. New Birth Missionary Baptist Church admits that Long shared hotel rooms with the young lads, but the church is basically saying: We don`t know what the hell went on behind closed doors.
A minister should avoid all appearance of evil, even if nothing happened behind closed doors, Long should have never shared a hotel room with any young boy.
The church elders knew what was going on, yet they didn`t warn Long not to put himself in a compromising position.
Bishop Long may be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, but in the court of public opinion we are free to express our opinions. In my humble opinion Long is a transparent con artist, and he is most likely guilty of coercing young boys into a sexual relationship.
