The Pope's Reprehensible Comments About Child Porn And Pedophilia

By Robert Paul Reyes

"Victims of clerical sex abuse have reacted furiously to Pope Benedict`s claim yesterday that paedophilia wasn`t considered an `absolute evil` as recently as the 1970s.

In his traditional Christmas address yesterday to cardinals and officials working in Rome, Pope Benedict XVI also claimed that child pornography was increasingly considered `normal` by society.

`In the 1970s, paedophilia was theorised as something fully in conformity with man and even with children,` the Pope said.

`It was maintained - even within the realm of Catholic theology - that there is no such thing as evil in itself or good in itself. There is only a `better than` and a `worse than`. Nothing is good or bad in itself."

The Pope`s comments in reference to child pornography and pedophilia are indefensible and reprehensible. It would be bad enough if a parish priest uttered such vile comments, but for the head of the Roman Catholic Church to subscribe to these evil delusions is frightening.

Pedophilia and child pornography have always been considered absolutely evil in the United States. It is patently false that child pornography is increasingly considered normal by society. While it`s true that due to the advent of the Internet more perverts are viewing child porn, it`s also true that that in the last few years there has been a flood of legislation toughening the penalties for the possession and dissemination of child porn.

In the 1970`s seminary students and Roman Catholic priests may have theorized that pedophilia was normal, but everywhere outside the corrupt realm of the Church child molestation was considered a heinous crime.

The Roman Catholic clerics may maintain that there is no such thing as evil in itself, but even freethinkers like myself consider child molestation pure unadulterated evil.

The pontiff`s comments lead me to conclude that he may be molesting young boys. Before Benedict became the Pope he harbored and protected pedophiles, would it be such a huge surprise if he had a predilection for young boys?

The Pope`s noxious comments are just another example why all organized religions (without exception) are an abomination. I don`t care what kind of religious myths and superstitions "people of faith" subscribe to, and I could care less if the Pope announced that the image on the Shroud of Turin became flesh and blood and a had a chat with him. But when a religious leader makes a statement seeming to condone child porn and child molestation I can`t keep quiet.

Singer Sinead O`Connor and victims of clerical abuse have blasted the Pope`s comments, but why the deafening silence from everybody else?
