Dude In China Sentenced To Life For Evading Road Tolls

By Robert Paul Reyes

"The brother of a Chinese man sentenced to life for evading road tolls is taking the blame himself, authorities said Sunday.

Shi Junfeng said he was the one who put military number plates on the vehicles to evade tolls of 3.7 million yuan ($560,000), the BBC reported.

Records show his trucks avoided tolls 2,362 times from May 2008 through January 2009. The average toll each time would have been 1,558 yuan ($236), Xinhua reported. UPI

The convicted man couldn`t avoid the road tolls, he worked delivering sand and gravel in his two trucks.

How a Chinese working man can afford to pay a toll at $236 a pop I have no idea. I don`t blame him for putting military plates on his trucks so he wouldn`t have to pay the tolls.

In America if a dude managed to avoid over $560,000 in road tolls, he would be lauded as a hero. Donald Trump would offer to pay the money he owed, and he would be offered his own reality show.

But in China apparently they don`t believe in fines or misdemeanors, I`d hate to see how China treats jaywalkers.

The harsh sentence meted out to the hardworking truck driver has caused uproar in China, and the court has ordered a retrial.

I hope that he court shows compassion on the trucker and his prince of a brother.
