"Police responding to a report of a possible domestic disturbance in New Mexico said they discovered marijuana and a 2-foot-long alligator in the home.

Los Lunas police Sgt. Archie Romero said he and another officer responded to the home of Amanda Baker, 24, about 1:40 a.m. Saturday on a report of a possible domestic disturbance, the Valencia County News-Bulletin reported Wednesday.

Baker told the officers she had been arguing with her boyfriend and he left the home on foot.

The officers said they discovered small plastic bags of marijuana, cannabis plants and marijuana paraphernalia in the home. Romero said he heard a sound coming from behind some cardboard boxes and Baker told him it was her pet alligator."

A person who is cultivating marijuana in his home would be well-advised to keep a low profile. Having a loud argument with your boyfriend, and keeping a pet alligator in your home isn`t exactly keeping things on the down low.

The alligator was turned over to Los Lunas Animal Control, but I`d be surprised if the cops turned all of the weed into the police evidence locker.

Amanda Baker had a hellish day -- she lost her freedom, her weed, her pet alligator and her boyfriend who left in a huff before the cops arrived.
