America Has Been Corrupted Over the Last Three Years?

By Garrett Godwin

A recent snapshot from USA Today two weeks ago on January 12 shows a poll stating that 72% believes that America has been corrupted over the last three years. Why is that?

Because of Kwame Kilpatrick, John Edwards, Tiger Woods, Jesse James, Eliot Spitzer, and other prominent men in power and sports that lied and cheated on their wives, became engaged to their mistresses and fathered children with them? Because the media has been giving Michigan a bad name and reputation of being a state of crime, corruption, and politics? Because Wall Street and the banks are the ones being bailout, not the people? The rise in unemployment and foreclosures? Because of the Great Recession, or is it all of the above?

America may have been corrupted in some way, but we still remain divided in terms of politics and ideologies over the course of our country`s future. For instance, the Republicans winning the House of Representatives in the 2010 mid-election; the Democrats, though, still keeps the Senate. There has been plenty of grassroots organizations, campaigns, and labor unions fighting for jobs, justice, education, equal rights for all, fair wages, housing, the development of an economic bill of rights, and peace in the spirit of both God and the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., leader of the civil rights movement and creator of the Poor People`s Campaign.

What happened during the Great Depression in the 1930s, what happened in the latter half of the 1960s and into the beginning and middle of the 1970s may just be happening right now in the year 2011. What is happening now? The Great Recession, but that`s over ... or is it?
