Seventeen-Year-Old Writes Introspective Book for Peers

By Ernest Dempsey

Young adults need to explore their emotions, to make difficult first-time life decisions, and to come to an understanding of what they want in life. Realizing a need existed for a book that would help guide young adults through the process of understanding their emotions and decision-making, seventeen-year old Kaitlyn Kashman wrote Words of a Journey: My Thoughts on Life and Living (ISBN 9781615990528, Loving Healing Press, 2011).

Words of a Journey is a book by a teenager for teenagers, but it`s also a book for anyone who wants to take a closer look at life`s meaning and their experiences. Seventeen-year old Kaitlyn Kashman has designed this book to provide thought-stimulation on various issues and feelings that young adults must explore. The book is a potpourri of poetry, with introspective, inspirational questions and observations to stimulate thought in readers so they can come to a clearer understanding of their own feelings and desires and to make necessary choices to move them forward in life.

The book provides the opportunity to explore the vast range of emotions and situations young adults experience on a focused but personal level. Trying to understand unrequited love leads to analysis between what is a want vs. a need. The difficulties of first love, learning about oneself, seeking the thrill of love, and knowing when it is best to end a relationship are among the puzzles to be pieced together. Difficult realizations "that one cannot change for another person "that sometimes we love our own fictional version of a person "are all offered o help readers analyze and clarify their own relationships. A budding sense of new identity is also offered here "an understanding of the boundaries between two people, an appreciation for relationships, and accepting and embracing ourselves.

Kashman wrote her book in poems and quotes, with thought-provoking ideas to encourage readers to express themselves. As she says, As you begin to read, you may be given inspiration or just have an urge to babble or rant about everything that is going on in your very own life. I created this book for that purpose. " Beside each poem and quote, Kashman has included space for readers to express themselves, exploring their feelings, releasing their frustrations, and learning how to focus on what they want so they can move forward.

While Kashman was inspired to write the book because of the struggles she experienced and how she learned to cope with them, she notes, " this book isn`t just about the battles of life. It is also about the joys and excitement we experience throughout life. It`s about how a normal teenager makes their way through a life that will be anything but ordinary. "Many teenagers will find Words of Journey like that longed-for best friend, giving them an opportunity to confide and find resolution to their problems, with an author who listens and understands. An important book for any teenager or young adult, Words of a Journey will take readers down a path that will lead them back home to find a better version of themselves.
