Losing Weight Now Consists of Throwing Kicks and Punches
The days of heading to the gym early in the morning and watching the high-impact aerobics class taking place as you made your way to the locker room is now a thing of the past. Over the last few years more and more people are starting to take up new and exciting ways to burn lots of calories while having fun and learning something while they workout.
The Martial-Arts is probably one of the most intense and high-impact aerobic workouts anyone at any age can do and benefit from. This type of workout not only provides the high-impact aerobic workout but also adds in the strength and endurance training which adds to losing weight fast and increases your stamina and endurance. And you don`t have to stand in line at the gym and wait for that sweaty machine you are about to sit down on and do you ten reputations of strength training.
The other main benefit of the Martial-Arts is you learn to defend yourself in just about any situation you may face and it adds and builds confidence so you don`t just have confidence in kicking the behind of an potential attacker but it adds confidence in your daily life like your job and just about anything you do.
In today`s world and society it probably is not a bad idea to know how to take down a possible attacker from harming you and be able to have confidence without hesitation in doing so.
In some of my other articles I mentioned that there are many styles of the Martial-Arts. One of the main styles that we all hear about today is the traditional (MMA) or Mixed Martial-Arts. There are teams just like in any sport in the MMA that goes around and competes. The teams even have names like any competition sport.
The Mixed-Martial Arts consists of styles from Maui Thai Kickboxing, Brazilian Ju-Jitsu and Western boxing. The art of kicking and punching is used but not every style of kick is used. In some of the philosophy of kickboxing, especially Maui Thai Kickboxing, the combatants are taught to never turn you back on your opponent, so this means the spinning kicks are not used as-well as a very powerful weapon, the spinning back fist is also not used.
The main kicks that are used are the front roundhouse kick and the thrust kick or what I like to train with is the front snap kick. The art is brutal and very dangerous, so in MMA competition rules are applied to how and where the strikes can be delivered.
The techniques that make this art form so brutal are the elbow strikes. The elbow is like hitting someone with a metal pole or a log if applied correctly and in Thailand where not too many rules are used in local competition proves this art form to be dangerous. Many Thai boxers are injured and killed in competition there. I like using elbow strikes because they are a great defense weapon.
To say the least this form can be great for a boxing workout. High Impact workouts, push-ups, squat, sit-ups are used while performing the techniques which burns tons of calories and works out your heart for a complete cardiovascular workout. These drills and workouts also prepare you for fighting and defending yourself.
Some of the other forms and styles in the Martial-Arts are Tae Kwon Do, Tang Soo Do, Judo, Kempo, Japanese Kickboxing and many, many others. How you workout in them depends on the style and techniques but no matter which discipline you train in they all provide the high-impact aerobic exercise, burn calories, add strength training, helps you learn to defend yourself and builds your confidence.
If you get into any form in the Martial-Arts, one of the main aspects is to increase your punching and kicking power. One way to do this besides doing push-ups and strength training exercises is to hit the heavy bag. The heavy bag is used to increase punching and kicking power but also increases your speed and striking speed and ability.
One great workout to do with the heavy bag is to strike the bag as many times as you can and force the bag forward. As the bag comes back at you retreat back away from the bag and try not to let it touch you. Then do it all over again. This helps to increase your speed and footwork in not only a fight scenario but to provide a great aerobic workout.
Another good Martial-Arts bag workout is called the Push and Pull " This workout is great for conditioning your legs and provides your upper body with strength conditioning. You need a heavy bag that is close to your body weight to perform this exercise. Standing in an offensive fighting position, you hold the bag close to you, and then you push the bag forward. As you push the bag forward, use one hand to strike and one hand to keep the bag in the same position. Once you have pushed the bag as far as it will go, you should have the full weight of the bag leaning against you. At this point, use your leg muscles to walk the bag back its normal position. Repeating this training during your normal heavy bag workout increases your overall muscle development and helps you lose weight. (Collins, J, 2011).
The third element of Martial-Arts training is sparring. Sparring is a great way to do a high-impact workout and provide strength training. It also gives you a chance to practice your techniques with an opponent which is a modified way to practice if your opponent was an actual attacker. Sparring is what gives you a lot of mental training in the fighting arts to not freeze up if you are ever faced in a real-life situation where you are forced to defend yourself.
So, the next time you want to go to the gym and wait in line to use the machines just put on your comfortable sweats or Karate Gi depending on your Martial-Arts style and get in the workout mode and start kicking and punching your way to better fitness, losing weight, and adding a little self-confidence to your daily workout routine.
