Bomb Blasts at Shrine Kill At Least 30 People

By Ernest Dempsey

The blasts reportedly took place outside the Sakhi Sarwar Shrine, named after Syed Ahmad Sultan Sakhi Sarwar of 13th century, who preached Islam in the area. According to private TV channels, about 32 people have been killed while at least a hundred others are injured and under emergency treatment at the District Headquarter Hospital in Dera Ghazai Khan. The condition of 15 wounded patients is said to be critical.

A rescue officer has been reported claiming that a suicide bomber was arrested from the site after the blasts. But the claim has not been verified by anyone so far. It is also not clear yet whether the blasts were a case of suicide bombing or remotely controlled blasts. Strong condemnation of the attack has come from the country`s political leadership including the President, the Prime Minister, opposition leader Nawaz Sharif, and Interior Minister Rehman Malik.

TV reports tell that a large number of volunteers have gathered at the hospital and are offering blood donations on voluntary basis to help the injured. Updates are coming on news channels.
