Mike Huckabee: Youth Should Be Forced At Gunpoint To Listen to David Barton

By Robert Paul Reyes

"I don`t know anyone in America who is a more effective communicator [than David Barton.] I just wish that every single young person in America would be able to be under his tutelage and understand something about who we really are as a nation. I almost wish that there would be like a simultaneous telecast and all Americans would be forced, forced - at gun point no less - to listen to every David Barton message. And I think our country would be better for it. I wish it`d happen."

Mike Huckabee at the "Rediscover God in America" conference in Iowa

"David Barton (born 1954) is an American evangelical minister, political activist and founder of the group WallBuilders, a Texas-based organization that describes itself as `dedicated to presenting America`s forgotten history and heroes, with an emphasis on the moral, religious, and constitutional foundation on which America was built."` Barton is the former co-chair of the Texas Republican party."

David Barton is a radical evangelical minister and a discredited historian who promotes the notion that America was founded as an explicitly Christian nation.

Atheists, Muslims, Jews, Hindus and everybody else who isn`t a Christian should be disturbed that presidential aspirant, Mike Huckabee, is a disciple of Barton.

You can file this comment in the folder: Huckabee jokes that backfired. Even though Huckabee claims he was joking, this comment reveals a lot about him. Huckabee longs for an America in which everyone who isn`t an evangelical Christian is dismissed as a godless commie.

If Huckabee got his wish and every single young person was forced at gunpoint to listen to Barton, America would resemble a theocracy more than a Jeffersonian democracy.

Huckabee`s speech may have been warmly received at the "Rediscover God in America" conference, but his comments should be anathema to those of use who love freedom, tolerance and diversity.
