Judyth Piazza chats with Leslie Reichert the "Martha Stewart Of Green Cleaning"

By Judyth Piazza CEO (Editor)

Hailed as the "Martha Stewart Of Green Cleaning", Leslie Reichert is a cleaning expert that uses her sparkling personality, great sense of humor and contagious passion to engage her fans and followers. Leslie Reichert has learned the hard way what toxic chemicals can do to your body. After years of owning and running a large residential housekeeping service - her body rebelled. She found that her immune system was broken " and the only way to heal it was to find alternatives to the commercial cleaners she was using every day. Her search for alternatives lead her to her family`s history and launched her into her life`s mission.

Leslie Reichert is known as a Green Cleaning Coach. She is an author and spokesperson for the green cleaning industry and is a teacher of green homekeeping. She is a national lecturer, a contributor to a The Daily Green, which is a Hearst publication, a frequent homekeeping expert on Martha Stewart Living Radio and author of the book: The Joy Of Green Cleaning- a handbook for DIY cleaners.

Reichert`s book- The Joy Of Green Cleaning is a collection of 99 homemade recipes that have been tested and proven to work as well as store-bought " cleaners. In her book is the cornerstone recipe- "Great Grandma`s Laundry Soap` that is derived from her great-grandmothers laundry soap recipe. After finding the ingredients and testing the laundry soap, Reichert knew this and other old fashioned recipes needed to be compiled into a convenient resource. Her mantra has now become: We can change the world-one spray bottle at a time. "

Reichert has performed at the International Home and Housewares Show in Chicago with celebrity chefs such as The Hearty Boys and Ming Tsai. Chef Rich Tarantino said about working with Reichert; if he knew cleaning was this much fun I would have offered to clean during my teen years ". This was after Reichert showed him that you could disinfect your countertops with vodka " and Chef Rick ended up spraying the cleaner " into his mouth!

Reflecting on how she got to this point, Leslie says I`ve always loved helping others and solving problems " I never imagined that my background in chemical engineering would lead me to helping people make their own green cleaners. I now realize that all of my life experiences up to this point have been to help me help others find alternate cleaners. Along with my old-fashioned recipes, I have found some great new technologies the help take the chemicals out of peoples` homes. I want to share what I`ve discovered and give people an "aha` moment to makes them stop and think. They need to realize that the things they are spraying into their homes could be affecting their health, and the health of their children and pets. "

After searching the world to find the unique ingredients for her DIY recipes, Leslie found that others were also looking for these items. Her search lead to Reichert starting a retail store and online marketplace that specializes in green cleaning products, DIY ingredients and tools. Her store, The Back Door, is celebrating its twentieth anniversary helping people find the best cleaners and tools to clean their homes.

Leslie realized her life mission after reading a quote in the bible. She was turning 49 and read that older women are called to teach and encourage the younger women on how to love their husbands, love their children and to be pure keepers of the home " The joke was on me that I was no longer the younger woman but the older one, that was being called to share my life experiences with others. Leslie now divides her time coaching individuals with their cleaning questions, running her retail company and speaking around the country. Her goal is to get the message out that there are alternative to toxic cleaners and most of the items you have in your pantry can do a great job cleaning and disinfecting. Her goal is to re-program people to go to the pantry first instead of under the kitchen sink when looking for a cleaner. Her favorite greeting Happy Cleaning " leaves people smiling once they realize that cleaning can be fun, once they`ve taken the toxins out of their lives.
