Silly Pooches Survive Fall Down 175-Foot Cliff

By Robert Paul Reyes

"John Grady was fixing a hole today in his storm-damaged fence, which traces the edge of a bluff high above the Clackamas River, northwest of Estacada. He was shocked to see his two golden retrievers tumbling down the steep 175-foot slope toward the rushing water below.

It took two hours and a good deal of effort for them to be reunited. The dogs, surprisingly, were little the worse for wear.

Apparently, the dogs -- 10-year-old Doug and 8-year-old George -- went out to see what Grady was doing, then slipped through the hole in the fence when he wasn`t looking."

I have two pooches and they are fascinated by everything that I do. If I`m in my backyard pulling weeds or planting a shrub, they are right there by my side until I finish what I`m doing. Of course by the end of the day one of them will probably dig out the shrub I just planted.

I can readily understand why Grady`s two dogs were with their master as he repaired the storm damaged fence. I can also understand why the canines tumbled down the cliff, dogs are exactly the smartest creatures in the animal kingdom.

The fire department rescued the silly things, and they were none the worse for the wear. I love a story with a happy ending.
