Judyth Piazza chats with Erich Cawalla,The Uptown Band
The Uptown Band featuring Erich Cawalla and Jenifer Kinder is one of the Northeast`s most versatile live bands. With an adult contemporary mix of Jazz, Funk, Rock, and Pop, this group does not miss. They are poised to make a splash into the recording industry with their fall 2008 much anticipated debut CD, "Waiting for Her." Performing as both cover and original artists, their shows always garner significant audience interaction and offer something for everybody to enjoy. This lively group is based out of the Philadelphia area and is available for performances within the Northeast at festivals, concerts, conventions, corporate events, clubs, and private events.
Shillington, PA native Erich Cawalla has been entertaining audiences for over 10 years. He is proficient on lead vocals (3 1/2 octave tenor & high falsetto), soprano/alto/tenor/baritone saxophones, flute, and clarinet. Currently, Cawalla is very busy as the bandleader of The Uptown Band and consistently plays between 150-200 dates per year.
Lead female vocalist Jenifer Kinder, a Reading, PA native, has been singing since the age of 5. Her voice has been compared to the soulful sounds of Christina Aguilera and Mariah Carey. She began studying voice at age 8 with David Rutt and became heavily involved with the Reading Civic Opera and Genesius Theatre, landing leading roles in Annie, " The Music Man, " and Peter Pan. " At age 14, she began working with producer Scott Verret and recorded jingles and commercials for various businesses, as well as doing the theme songs for Easter Seals and The United Way. In combining her incredible vocal talent with her songwriting skills, Kinder has become one of the most sought-after female vocalists in the Northeast. Kinder also freelances with other groups and in 2004, released her original debut CD entitled Show Me More, " which is available at www.waterfall440.com.
Both Jenifer and Erich support the American Cancer Society, a cause that`s near to their hearts, by donating their shows at several of the ACS`s walks including the American Cancer Society walk in Lancaster, Kutztown, and the walk on Capitol Hill in Harrisburg.
Some of Erich`s more notable performances include performing at Florida State University for the 2000 Florida Republican Inauguration Gala, Charlotte`s Independence Arena, the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Walt Disney World, numerous Atlantic City showrooms and lounges, and Carnegie Hall with the District 10 Chorus as a senior in high school. He has performed as a sideman for Marie Osmond and The Skyliners, and has opened for Martha and the Vandellas, Harold Melvin`s Blue Notes, and Sonny Turner. Jenifer`s most notable performances include opening for country music sensations Joe Nichols, Mark Wills, David Ball, and Comedian Jeff Dunham.
