Oprah Winfrey Era Is Over! Can Oprah's Devotees Survive Without Their God?

Many articles have been written expressing fear that Harold Camping`s followers may hurt themselves or others after their leader`s prophecy of a May 21 Rapture failed to materialize. Camping`s devotees are emotionally and spiritually devastated, and I hope they receive counseling.

But I haven`t found any editorials expressing concern that Oprah Winfrey`s followers may be suicidal over the impending end of the Oprah Winfrey Show.

Oprah Winfrey is as much a spiritual leader as a Harold Camping or a Pat Robertson, and the talk show queen holds as much sway over her viewers as a televangelist wields over his congregation.

Oprah mumbles a lot of New Age bullcrap, but the bottom line is that she thinks she`s God. Oprah`s fans will buy any product she endorses from a book to a specific brand of underwear. Oprah rewards her faithful by bestowing on them her favorites things from toasters to cars.

Oprah`s last show is today, how on Earth will her sycophants survive without her? Oprah gives them validation, and a reason for getting up in the morning. Oprah Winfrey gives her audience the blessing to indulge in mindless consumerism as long as they faithfully attend the Church of Oprah Winfrey.

How I fear for Oprah`s followers, dear Lord how I fear for them.
