Bravo! City Council To Recite Pledge Of Allegiance Only 4 Times A Year

By Robert Paul Reyes

"Officials in Eugene, Ore., said the City Council`s decision to recite the Pledge of Allegiance four times a year yielded complaints from out of state."

Kudos to the Eugene City Council for striking a blow for commonsense!

Reciting the Pledge of Allegiance four times a year is just right. When I was a child I recited the pledge in school, but when I became an adult I put away childish things.

The wise elders voted to make the pledge voluntary on four days: July 4, Memorial Day, Veteran`s Day and Flag Day. That makes perfect sense to me, reciting the pledge more than four times a year is an exercise in jingoism.

Reciting the pledge like a robot before a City Council meeting doesn`t make you a patriot or a good politician. Send an email to the Eugene City Council praising them for acting like true patriots.
