Miracle Video: Tortoise Gets Fitted With Prostethic Leg With Wheel
"Animal surgeons at Washington State University said they attached a swiveling wheel to a tortoise that had to have its leg amputated.
The Pullman school`s Exotic Animal Service said Gamera, a 12-year-old African spur-thighed tortoise, lost its left front leg due to thermal injury and tissue damage but was getting around well after having a prosthetic with a swiveling wheel attached to its shell, KCPQ-TV, Tacoma, Wash., reported Thursday."
Too many pet owners abandon their cats and dogs when they get too old or are injured. I have two dogs, one pooch (Mandy) is only four years old, but the other one (Midnite) must be at least 90 in human years. I used to jog every day for at least an hour with Midnite, but now he can only tolerate a short walk. I love Midnite as much now as I did when he was a young pup, and I would never consider turning him in to an animal shelter just because he`s older than Methuselah.
Every animal on this planet has intrinsic worth, and I`m thrilled that the animal surgeons at Washington State University gave the tortoise chance at a meaningful life by fitting him with a prosthetic leg.
I plead with pet owners to reward their cats and dogs for the many years years of joy they have given them by continuing to take care of their pets in their old age.
