Judyth Piazza chats with C. Gilbert Lowery, Author of 'The Untold Experiences of a Navy Corpsman'

C. Gilbert Lowery joined the U.S. Navy in 1954 at the age of 19. He is a self-employed tax accountant and a retired government auditor, as well as a former town commissioner and former mayor of Jonesville, NC. He and his wife, Carol, have been married for 52 years and they currently reside in Cary, NC. They have four children, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. This is Lowery`s first book.

"My number one qualification for writing the book is that I lived the part. I was there. I was the Navy Hospital Corpsman Lawrence C. Gentry HM3 featured in the book as a rifleman/medical support for the Marine Reconnaissance Patrol Team in Korea in the mid 1950`s.

After I got out of the Navy, I could not stay in the medical field because it triggered recurring dreams, nightmares and many consecutive sleepless nights as a result of my traumatic experiences in Korea. So, I entered the field of accounting and management working first as an Office Manager with a major oil company distributor, then as Office Manager for a large wholesale food distributor.

After that I entered government work, first in human resources where I "published" my first booklets, brochures and manuals. I then transferred to the accounting area of government as an auditor of state and federal grants to local governments for 25 years. Following retirement at age 65, I worked as a Contractor to a governmental agency writing/ compiling an accounting procedures manual for local quasi-governmental entities.

For the past forty plus years, including the aforementioned times, I have been researching the genealogy and military histories of our families which I have started writing. It is noted that for fifty one years, I have enjoyed a part-time occupation as a Tax Accountant/Preparer as a second source of income to support a family of six. I still enjoy preparing income tax returns for my clients who are also good friends."
