Harry Potter was Shielded Out of the Top Spot by Captain America

Captain America: The First Avenger finally earns his big-screen strips this weekend when he won the box office war against Harry Potter with $65.8 million.  Chris Evans -- aka Johnny "The Human Torch" Storm from The Fantastic Four movies -- proudly wears the red, white, and blue as the first super-soldier who becomes the patriotic shield of America against the Nazis during World War II.

The risk for Captain America: The First Avenger to come out three weeks after Independence Day paid off, as its opening became the biggest superhero debut this summer.

Captain America, who turned 70 this year, will be joining fellow Marvel superheroes Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) next summer to assemble "Earth`s Mightiest Heroes" known as The Avengers.

Captain America: The First Avenger is currently in theaters now.
