Congressman Compares Amy Winehouse To Congress! That's An Insult to Pop Diva

By Robert Paul Reyes

"The Missouri congressman who compared Congress to the late singer Amy Winehouse via Twitter apologized for his tweet.

Rep. Billy Long, R-Mo., said in an e-mail to the Springfield News-Leader that he `meant no disrespect to Amy, her family or her fans.`

Yesterday, before the Grammy Award-winning singer had even been buried, Long tweeted, `No one could reach #AmyWinehouse before it was too late. Can anyone reach Washington before it`s too late? Both addicted -- same fate???`"

There was no need for Rep. Billy Long to exploit the pop diva`s death for political expediency. He should simply have said that Congress was acting like crackheads fighting over a couple or rocks of crack that had fallen on the bathroom floor, without mentioning Amy Winehouse.

A crackhead has more integrity than a typical politician, at least a drug addict realizes on some level that his behavior is wrong. But a politician acts like a buffoon, and then expects us to praise him and re-elect him.

Amy may have been addicted to alcohol and drugs, but she was real. There is nothing real about Rep.Long, least of all his apology.

I hope that Amy Winehouse fans in his congressional district will kick him out of office.
