Jason Mecier Creates Portrait Of Pop Icon Amy Winehouse Using Painkiller Pills

By Robert Paul Reyes

"A US-based artist has courted controversy by creating a portrait of the late soul singer Amy Winehouse using painkiller pills.

Jason Mecier has captured the tragic star in a poignant pose depicted by colourful medications, as part of a series of mosaics inspired by celebrities who battled drug abuse."

Some folks may find Mecier`s portrait of Amy Winehouse disrespectful, but I think it captures the essence of the late pop diva. My only complaint is that Mecier didn`t use dead bees to create Amy`s trademark beehive do.

I hope Mecier`s portrait will inspire folks who aren`t familiar with Winehouse`s music to buy her CD`s. Winehouse blows most of today`s pop stars out of the water.

Mecier has a real knack for capturing the essence of an artist, it should come as no surprise to anyone that he created a portrait of Lady Gaga using rubbish he found around his home.
