Good News: Smoking Weed Won't Make You Gain Weight

By Robert Paul Reyes

"Anybody who`s smoked marijuana knows about `the munchies,` that desire to eat everything within reach. But a study from France has found that, surprisingly, pot smokers are actually less likely than non-smokers to pack on weight.

Using data covering more than 50,000 U.S. adults, researchers headed by Yann Le Strat, a psychiatrist at the Louis-Mourier Hospital in Colombes, France, found that roughly 14 percent to 17 percent of the people reporting that they smoked pot at least three days per week were obese.

That compared with a 22 to 25 percent obesity rate among people who said they had not used pot in the past 12 months."

I`m not surprised by the results of this study, most of the heavy pot smokers I know are rail-thin. They may have their cupboards overflowing with chips, donuts and cookies but they look like skeletons. I`m not advocating that anybody smoke weed as a way of losing weight, but it can`t hurt.

Marijuana smokers should be encouraged by the results of this study, science and perhaps the Almighty is putting a stamp of approval on their lifestyle. Dudes, go ahead and smoke week, plop on the sofa in front of the TV, and munch on chips, you are engaged in a righteous lifestyle.

If American egghead scientists want to conduct a similar study, I will be willing to participate as long as they supply the free joints.
