Outrage: Evangelical Couple Fined For Holding Bible Study In Their Home
"An Orange County couple has been ordered to stop holding a Bible study in their home on the grounds that the meeting violates a city ordinance as a `church` and not as a private gathering.
Homeowners Chuck and Stephanie Fromm, of San Juan Capistrano, were fined $300 earlier this month for holding what city officials called `a regular gathering of more than three people`.
That type of meeting would require a conditional use permit as defined by the city."
I hope that my liberal friends won`t condemn me for coming to the defense of Chuck and Stephanie Fromm, but I am always on the side of liberty and freedom.
If this couple were more into football than religion, and they had a couple of their friends over every Monday for Monday Night Football their weekly meetings wouldn`t be an issue.
This evangelical couple has a constitutional right to practice their religion at home with like-minded friends. I`m a very devout believer in the separation of church and state, but these Bible-loving folks are in their home.
It would be a different matter if the Fromms were disturbing their neighbors, but their neighbors have written letters to city officials in support of them.
As long as my neighbors don`t disturb the peace, I don`t care if they hold weekly meetings to study the Bible, the Koran or to worship the Great Spaghetti God in the Sky.
I hope some of my fellow liberals come to the defense of the Fromms -- Republicans, Democrats and Independents should all be in favor of religious liberty.
