Barbie Gets A Makeover Complete With Tattoos! Should Parents Be Worried?

By Robert Paul Reyes

"She`s been everything from a ballerina to a doctor. Now, for her latest incarnation, Barbie has had a serious fashion makeover.

Thanks to Italian-based, Japanese-inspired brand Tokidoki, the doll has been given a bang-on-trend pink bob, heels that would make Carrie Bradshaw jealous... and tattoos.

Some conservatives are outraged over Barbie`s makeover, they are fearful that if their daughters play with the tattooed doll that they may turn into a miniature Lindsay Lohan or Paris Hilton.

Is the new Barbie sending the wrong message? The tattooed Barbie is selling like hotcakes, does that mean that the next Barbie will holding a joint in one hand and a bottle of beer in the other? Is the Apocalypse around the corner?

Parents need to chill out, this isn`t the first time that Mattel released a Barbie with tattoos. In 2009 Mattel sold a "Totally Stylin` Tattoos Barbie" and America didn`t go to hell in a handbasket.

Will the dolls encourage impressionable girls to get tattoos? Maybe, but there`s nothing wrong with tattoos. As long as young girls study and don`t goof off, who cares if they have a zillion tattoos and piercings?

It`s not Barbie`s tattoos that are a problem, it`s her anorexic figure. Mattel should sell a Barbie with more bounce to the ounce, so that young girls won`t starve themselves trying to look like a plastic doll.

Mattel isn`t going to back down to public pressure, the dolls are flying off the shelves. But Tattoo Barbie does look more than a bit skanky, maybe Mattel can include a tiny bottle of disinfectant with Tattoo Barbie. Heaven only knows what type of kinky games Barbie has been playing with Ken.

Tattoo Barbie is going to be a collector`s item, I`m sure that a lot of adults are buying the dolls for themselves.
