Mission Tuition Presents: The History of Education!
|
|
The history of American education is rich in detail. The many changes, additions, and independent choices that have happened over time, show everyone that education - from the beginning - was highly important to the masses. Social, cultural and political changes altered educational philosophy from the 17th Century to today. Of course, back in the 17th Century, there was no such thing as Mission Tuition. There was no such thing as being able to actually have the money to go to school. Only wealthy individuals walked through the doors of a college way back then; the social classes were very set in place, with middle and lower classes never being allowed the opportunity to receive a higher education. Thankfully, that has changed. But if there is one thing that`s stayed the same over the centuries, it`s money. Mission Tuition, for a brief recap, is a company that was formed so that ALL children could get an education. Parents, godparents, aunts, uncles - all members of the family unit are now able to simply sign up for FREE with Mission Tuition, who then opens an educational savings account " held at Wells Fargo at no cost to you. The money you save from coupons, rebates, in-store discounts, online discounts - everything - is placed into this account where it remains, giving you the time to research what the best 529 account would be for your children. That`s right - all you do is shop at the same retailers you shop at now. Clothing, food, home equipment, furniture - everything from Walgreens to K-Mart - gets you money back that is automatically placed into an account that is unbelievably necessary for your child`s future. The thirteen original colonies were the home to the first American schools that were opened in the 17th Century. Colonists tried to educate by using the traditional English methods of family, church, community, and apprenticeship, with schools later becoming the key ingredient in socialization. " All the New England colonies required towns to set up schools, and many did so. And, in 1642, having a proper " education was a must! Quick fact: the schools were all male, with few facilities for girls. But in the 18th Century, common schools " appeared, and students of all ages were now under the control of one teacher in one room. BUT, they were not free; tuition or rate bills " had to be paid. It was Connecticut, and then the rest of New England, who built private academies in the 18th Century. They operated a network of elite private schools - now called prep schools " and colleges. These were where the Ivy League began - which can be attended by YOUR child. All that`s needed is strength, belief, a passion for learning, and signing up for a FREE Mission Tuition account to start saving the money necessary to walk through those ivy-covered doors. Tax-supported schooling for girls did come about for a while. Only the females from "rich` families who dominated the political and social structures were allowed. Taxes were assessed on all households, and these funds were used to support schools that were preparing boys for college. Historians say that reading, writing and arithmetic were only taught to boys (and a few privileged girls), because it was men who handled worldly affairs. They believed that girls only needed to read, so most women at this time could only sign their name with an X. Yes, ladies, it has all changed now. You receive the same education and can go out in the world and become CEO`s! In fact, watch the news right now, three of the largest companies in the world are appointing female CEO`s in January of 2012. So "Mission Tuition is even more of a "must-have,` considering that all students, male and female, are achieving their dreams "and they need the money to do it. Tuition was low for many throughout the centuries, but as education increased, and jobs increased, tuition, of course, followed suit. By 1910 graduates found jobs immediately when they left college, and vocational education rose in popularity. Having a skill the minute you left school made sure that you had that job right after graduation to support your family. From 1910 to 1940 colleges grew in number, reaching out to a broader clientele. This phenomenon was also uniquely American - no other nation attempted such widespread coverage for their young adults. At this time, European schooling was still dominated by children of the wealthy. American philanthropists even began to endow many college institutions such as, Johns Hopkins, Carnegie Mellon, Vanderbilt, and others, trying to help everyone on their journey to white-collar occupations. Another educational event " was the G.I. Bill, which made college education possible for millions, by paying tuition and living expenses. The government provided between $800 and $1,400 each year to these veterans as a subsidy to attend college, which covered 50-80% of total costs. The G.I. Bill helped to create a widespread belief in the necessity of college education. Most campuses became overwhelmingly male with this, however, by 2000, women had begun passing men in attendance. The history of education is long and intricate, but the funding of a child`s education has always been the most prominent issue no matter what time period who were born in. This new century has brought more and more "hard work` when it comes to saving for a child`s college education, and THAT is why Mission Tuition will also find themselves one day being written about in the history books.
