Indian Parliament Lashes Out Against Attack on Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar

New Delhi: A day after the Indian Union Agricultural Minister was assaulted by a Sikh youth during a public function here; both the houses of Indian Parliament on Friday strongly condemned the incident. 

Members of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha of the parliament strongly condemned the assault. Speaker Meira Kumar said, "House strongly condemns the unfortunate incident of assault on the Agriculture Minister." 

"The House expresses its unequivocal disapproval of taking recourse to violent and undemocratic means to express disagreement," she said. 

Earlier when the Lok Sabha met for the day, several members went across to Sharad Pawar. 

Rajya Sabha too also condemned the assault on Pawar. 

Early this morning Chairman Hamid Ansari made a mention of the incident. "I am sure the whole House will join me in condemning the assault on Sharad Pawar," he said.  

The Union Minister Sharad Pawar, 71, was yesterday slapped by a man at the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) centre in New Delhi.  

Meanwhile, the attacker Harvinder Singh was charged with attempted suicide, assault and criminal intimidation and sent to 14-day judicial custody.
