Toilet Paper Scam: Con Artists Prey On The Elderly
"Florida scam artists told elderly victims the government had changed the laws regulating toilet paper and that their septic tanks would be ruined unless they bought specially formulated rolls, court documents said.
`Through this scheme, some elderly customers were defrauded into purchasing more than 70 years worth of toilet paper,` federal prosecutors in Miami said in a news release."
I hope there`s a special place in hell reserved for those who prey on children and the elderly. I pray that when the scam artists (Mary Moore, Joseph Nouerand and Christopher Lincoln) die, they will be locked for all eternity in a room full of toilet paper with the texture of sandpaper, with a toilet that doesn`t flush, and a drying machine that dispenses fire instead of hot air.
This may be politically-incorrect to state, but old people aren`t operating on all cylinders (mentally or physically), and any con artist worth his salt could sell a year`s supply of dog food to an elderly couple who don`t own a dog.
Anybody with two brain cells to rub together should have been able to discern that the scam artists were full of crap, but old folks worry about everything, and I`m not surprised they fell for the scam. Retired people are terrified about not being in compliance with federal regulations, and they are easy prey for the con artists.
It wouldn`t be a bad idea for adult children to manage the finances of their ageing parents, but if they won`t relinquish control of their financial affairs, at least drop by on them regularly to make sure nobody is taking advantage of them.
We should respect, value and protect the elderly, we`re all going to be in their shoes one day.
