Indian Veteran Actor Dev Anand Dead at 88

New Delhi: A sense of gloom and shock spread over the Indian cinema as it lost its old precious gem, Dev Anand. The `most romantic superstar` of Bollywood counted his last breathes in London Hospital last Saturday as he was suffering from cardiac arrest. Dev Anand 88-year old veteran actor who celebrated his last birthday two months ago on 26 September was ill for the past couple of days as well as having regular medical check-ups, according to the family source.

Reports said that his son, Sunil was there with him during his last days.

Dev Anand started his career in Indian Cinema as an actor in 1946 in the movie `Hum Ek Hai`. He served many blockbusters to the industry during his hay-days which includes Paying Guest`, `CID`, `Johny MeraNaam`, Hare Rama Hare Krishna` etc.

As a veteran and the high rated actor of Indian Cinema, he was honored by the prestigious awards like Padma Bhushan in 2001 and Dada Saheb Phalke Award in 2002. He received Filmfare "Lifetime Achievement Award` in1993 and in 1996 he received Videocon `Lifetime Achievement Award`.

Meanwhile with heavy-hearts, many the actors in Bollywood industry paid their last tribute the Dev Annand through social networking site. Here is the brief account of the same

Amitabh Bacchan: An era has come to an end. .. Dev Anand leaves a void never perhaps to be filled again. His never give up belief, his joy of life! I recently met Dev Saheb at his premiere recently. He was weak but full of spirit.the newspapers confirming his passing away.sad.

Actor Anupam Kher in his micro-blogging site wrote "Dev Saab was Kind, -Passionate, Courageous, Forthright, Charming, Encouraging, Contemporary, Always a leader and a Great Human. Will Miss him. So as a Tribute to Dev Saab let`s only hum his Songs today. Songs which became such an integral part of our lives. Ahbi na jao chodkar...."

Shah Rukh Khan tweeted: "Dev Sahib`s sad demise makes me feel that the film industry is incomplete & has lost its magical energy. May Allah bless his soul."

Also, Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minster Omar Abdullah early morning tweeted, "The passing of an era, a void never to be filled. Rest in peace Dev Sahib. A legend in your own lifetime, you will be sorely missed" he tweeted.
