"A Brooklyn fiend repaid the kindness of an elderly woman who hired him for odd jobs by first stealing from her - and then burning her alive when she fired him, police said yesterday.
Accused sadistic killer Jerome `Jerry` Isaac, 47, was reeking of gasoline when he turned himself in to cops more than eight hours after the horrific torching of tragic 73--year-old churchgoer Delores Gillespie."
This crime is so horrific and beyond the pale, that we can`t react in a nuanced manner. A bleeding heart who argues that this incident highlights the need for mental health intervention for the poor and the homeless, will be shouted down by outraged citizens.
The thoughts running through my mind:
*No good deed goes unpunished.
*An eye for an eye.
*I hope this monster burns in hell.
*I hope this coward is repeatedly raped in prison.
We shouldn`t feel guilty about these seemingly atavistic thoughts, they are a natural response to a heinous crime. We have become desensitized to violence on TV and in real life, it`s a promising sign that good people are expressing their horror at this crime in primal terms.
Jerome Isaac has been charged with first-degree murder and arson.
My thoughts are with the friends and family of Delores Gillespie; I hope they will be comforted by the thought that she lived a long life memorable for her sweet and tender spirit.
