Etta James Dead At 73! May She Rest In Peace!
"Etta James, whose assertive, earthy voice lit up such hits as `The Wallflower,` `Something`s Got a Hold on Me` and the wedding favorite `At Last,` has died, according to her longtime friend and manager, Lupe De Leon. She was 73.
She died from complications from leukemia with her husband, Artis Mills, and her sons by her side, De Leon said."
Etta James` material spanned many musical genres including blues, gospel and jazz. Regardless what song or what genre Etta was singing, she always sang from her soul.
Etta was a popular artist in the 60`s and 70`s, but she still performed to enthusiastic and appreciative audiences right up to the end.
Even young people were familiar with the iconic singer, her song "At Last" was a staple in shows like "American Idol" and "The X-Factor."
But only one or two of the young contestants in these shows did her classic song justice. Etta`s talent was born in the crucible of poverty and heroin addiction, you can`t fake the angst and desperate longing in her voice.
At last Etta is free from the trials and tribulations of this world. Rest in peace Etta!
