Folks Fighting in Afghanistan Didn't Get The "Memo" to End The War
"Apparently, the folks fighting in Afghanistan, and those in the Pentagon spending 2.2 Billion a day failed to get former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld`s May 2003 Memo " that major combat operations has stopped in Afghanistan." Fox News
My previous positions on Afghanistan and Pakistan have not changed. I often write thoughts to International Think Tanks, and have discussions with Pakistani Intelligence members that helped America in the fight against Terrorism. I on many occasions have offered opinions to try to maintain constructive U.S./Pakistan Diplomatic Relations.
With the loss of Afghanistan`s chief Diplomat and Peace Negotiator Richard Holbrook (may he rest in peace), things might be a bit tough without real Diplomatic guidance. Therefore, I thought I would share my views that Afghanistan and Iraq was the wrong path for America to take, yet offer some solutions to deal Afghanistan since we are there.
We know that the Wars have cost America well over 20 Trillion Dollars and not the near 1 Trillion we hear about in the news. America`s wartime economy cost vast wealth as the Fed lowered rates and inflated the real estate economy based on White House and Defense Department comments like the link above which led them to believe that the wars would be short in both Afghanistan and the Rumsfeld Shock and Awe statements and Bush declaring an end to conflict on board the USS Abraham Lincoln in May 2003. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yCsmwoMecU
In my opinion America`s Common Defense lost its commonsense as the vast wartime economy has led to the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression. We are still spending approximately 2.2 Billion each day on Defense, with approximately 1/2 Trillion a year in the Middle East, and gaining little to show for it, while America is in need of internal spending. The amount spent could build dozens of new cities throughout the World such as this man`s dream cities of the future "The Venus Project" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJfKXbvA5T8&feature=fvwrel and this more lengthy part 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DqplP-E8Dvw&feature=related and part 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Cu4qzDVjGQ. In addition they have a website http://www.thevenusproject.com/.
The U.S. military policy in Afghanistan was flawed from the start. There was no entry or exit strategy for Afghanistan. There is still no American/ISAF offer on the table for Afghanistan and Pakistan to develop dreams and Democracy; however, NATO extended their `License to Kill` for another three years. The only thing America and NATO is offering the Taliban is humiliation, death and diminished power and influence... Therefore, how can there be reconciliation and cooperation in that region without them participating in Governmental issues within the Tribal region.
With that said, I would like to remind everyone that there were no Taliban from Afghanistan or Pakistan on the 9/11 planes, nor from Iraq for that matter. American contributed to the problem of radical Islam under President Reagan and Vice President Bush. Many of the same Beltway Bandits that you have seen in Washington over the three decades and a half also participated in the Guns, Drugs and Jihad issues in the past exposed by Iraqgate and the Iran-Contra Hearings. Yet, nothing every happed as they thought it was cool to work with thugs throughout the World trade guns and drugs and promote radical Islam.
President Clinton was advised and arm twisted by the Pentagon in their attempts to get him to return to the Middle East and the World Trade Centers were attacked during his Administration. Then Bush, Jr. spent two years picking a fight and he got one with an devastating attack on the World Trade Center Towers.
Now, how can we take responsibility, and correct old blundered Republican Policies that created so many problems in the region. American collaborating with Saudi Arabia radicalized Islam and terrorism (a great time to remind you that there were 15 Saudis on the 9/11, and that the long-standing relationship with Saudi Air force/Military trained pilots at U.S. Bases and even in America i.e. Florida.) Heck, the U.S. even assisted Pakistan in obtaining nuclear weapons, that in turn technology was transferred to North Korea?
The Afghanistan and Pakistani Dream for Democracy has been undermined time-and-time again, by the Military Coups, and the Military Industrial Complex, as well as the lucrative multi-billion dollar illicit Heroin business. Neither Afghanistan, nor Pakistan holds the Democratic value "By the People, for the people; it is based on Military Intelligence and Drug Corruption of Buy the Government, for the Beltway Bandit Criminal Enterprise."
Real Local and State Development and Democracy in Afghanistan and Pakistan via Comprehensive Planning Tools such as this one, which helps Professional Public Administrators structure community planning is undermined daily https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid=explorer&chrome=true&srcid=0B-ygIxNdW7E9N2RjNjQ1ZGEtNTdhOS00MmEwLWFjM2QtZDkzMzdkY2EzZGI0&hl=en_US Comprehensive Planning cannot work in any village, community or state, which is trying to focus on roads, jobs and education; when their roads are being land mined with IED`s, businesses are getting blown up in their city centers, and schools are being turned into terrorist recruitment centers.
Many of those young, frustrated and confused souls debating within themselves to become part of the radical Taliban or Al-Qaida have been, and will continue to be misguided. Many sold on a False Bill of Goods by the Taliban and Al-Qaida on becoming freedom fighters against the American aggressor, while the extreme radicals turn themselves into young Human Bombs, bought for as little as $5,000 dollars by illicit drug funds of criminal enterprises, and in some cases, even Government sponsored Terrorism/Intelligence Agencies...
Afghanistan and Pakistan`s dreams for Democratization is off track and being undermined by terror, war and military profiteers, and will continue to be so, until Civilian Control of the Military is permanently established. At that time, there may be real Nation Building, from the local and State levels. With all communities demanding real security that goes with the principles of Development and Democracy and the belief and value in Human Rights as they follow a Comprehensive Plan to nation build from every community.....
"The money powers prey upon the nation in times of peace, and conspire against it in times of adversity. It is more despotic than monarchy, more insolent than autocracy, more selfish than bureaucracy. I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. Corporations have been enthroned, an era of corruption will follow and the money power of the country will endeavor and prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people, until the wealth is aggregated into a few hands and the republic is destroyed." -- Abraham Lincoln, Nov. 21, 1864.
Abraham Lincoln said this one-hundred years before I was born, and now it is very relevant not only in Afghanistan and Pakistan, but American policies within those countries. If America, Afghanistan and Pakistan spent a fraction of the time, attention and money on interest of real value, such as education, clean energy, housing, and community Comprehensive Plan as opposed to regional, and tribal conflict they and the World would be much better off. This can only happen when the exploitation of nationalistic prejudices that have led to Wars of Choice are converted into International Trade and Commerce, and a focus on Human Rights.
If only one- third of the money that is now spent on Defense in Afghanistan and Pakistan went towards constructive projects within their country this would bring back confidence and stability to the region. Afghanistan and Pakistan could become a thriving and developing Democracy and trading partners with the World. Government security monitored production of pharmaceutical products is a must, and the focus on converting many agricultural regions into other agricultural goods grown for food consumption.
America would be much better off as well by getting out of Wars of Choice and it would help illuminate the growing Terror beast that feeds on American blood and treasure every day. In fact, the beast is growing as Intelligence Analyst predicted. Time and blundered planning has turned the American Soldiers from liberators into Crusading Invaders in Iraq, Afghanistan and vastly hurt ties with Pakistani...
"The shepherd drives the wolf from the sheep`s throat, for which the sheep thanks the shepherd as his liberator, while the wolf denounces him for the same act as the destroyer of liberty." ~Abraham Lincoln.
Thank you and I hope these words allow one to think through a more constructive policy in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Much of the same economic policies and Comprehensive Planning can, and should be used in America as well. Yet, that is a story for another day, but you can rest assured I am working on it.
