UN Chief Ban Expresses Sadness Over Deaths At Egyptian Soccer Stadium

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today expressed sadness at last night`s violent clashes at a soccer match in Egypt which led to the deaths of at least 74 people and injuries to hundreds of others. The deadly clashes between rival supporters took place after a match in the city of Port Said between the clubs al-Masry and al-Ahly. In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mr. Ban offered his condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to those injured. The Secretary-General trusts the Government of Egypt will take appropriate measures to respond to this tragic incident, with the full cooperation of all concerned, " the statement noted.
