Outrage: American Idol Warns Colton Dixon To Tone Down His Faith In Jesus
"`American Idol` producers have apparently warned Colton Dixon if he doesn`t tone down his overtly Christian act, he won`t have a prayer of winning the reality competition.
`When we first started the Twitter and Facebook stuff, they said beware of political and religious tweets,` Dixon told the site.
`Just because it can turn off voters or whatever. But, you know, being a Christian is who I am. It is a part of me musically. It is what I want to do after the show - go into Christian music.`"

The American Idol judges are experts in the music business, and they do a good job mentoring the contestants, but the producers behind the scene try to strip away every semblance of originality from the amateur singers. The Idol franchise is a factory that spits out pop singers that are radio friendly.
The suits behind the scenes try to stamp out any quirk or eccentricity that may hinder one of the young hopefuls from achieving their pop dreams. They consider any mention or reference to evangelical Christianity anathema, and they have cautioned Dixon to tone down his Christian act.
Anybody who follows me knows that I am a frequent critic of evangelical Christianity, but this time I must side with Dixon. I have watched Dixon perform live on a couple of occasions, and I was unaware of his religious persuasion. His performances are not overtly Christian, if he wears a bracelet with a verse from the Bible, so freakin` what? It`s not like he tebows after every song he performs, or says a prayer in gratitude when he receives praise from the judges.
Dixon uses social media like Twitter to promote his faith in Jesus Christ, but who wants a contestant who spouts only platitudes so as not to offend anyone?
I hope Dixon doesn`t win, but it`s not because of his faith, he`s one of the least talented Idol hopefuls. Dixon`s faith inspires his music, let him do his thing.
