Maher Calling Sarah Palin C-Word Not Same As Limbaugh Calling Sandra Fluke A Sl*t

By Robert Paul Reyes

"Maher told ABC News` Jake Tapper on Thursday that Limbaugh`s insult wasn`t fair game because Fluke is a private citizen.
Limbaugh `went after a civilian about very specific behavior, that was a lie, speaking for a party that has systematically gone after women`s rights all year, on the public airwaves,` the HBO host argued.

`I used a rude word about a public figure who gives as good as she gets, who`s called people "terrorist` and "unAmerican`... The First Amendment was specifically designed for citizens to insult politicians. Libel laws were written to protect law students speaking out on political issues from getting called whores by Oxycontin addicts,` he added."

Conservatives claim there`s a double standard: Bill Maher `gets away` with calling Sarah Palin the c-word, but the media are calling for Rush Limbaugh`s head because he called a law student a sl*t.

There is no double standard, Bill Maher calling Sarah Palin the "c-word" is inartful, but Rush Limbaugh calling Sandra Fluke a "sl*t" is an outrage.

Maher is spot on, Sarah Palin is no shrinking violet, she gives as good as she gets. The feisty former beauty queen called President Obama a socialist, and she`s had choice words for other prominent liberals. Politics is a rough and tumble game, calling a female politician the c-word is almost par for the course. If the former half-term governor of Alaska can`t stand the heat she should give up politics, and perhaps join the older females beauty pageant circuit.  I`m sure the beauty contestants will call Palin words that will make the c-word sound like a term of endearment.

Sandra Fluke is a private citizen and an advocate for female reproductive rights, regardless how anyone feels about her ideology, she should be treated with a modicum of respect. Fluke is well-spoken, and she always treats everyone with respect.

Rush Limbaugh was way of bounds referring to her as a sl*t -- a half-hearted apology isn`t enough. I call on all of his sponsors to desert him, and I plead with his listeners to turn the dial to a different station.

Palin on the other hand is a mean-spirited public figure who has nothing but disdain and epithets for her political opponents. Is is any wonder that Bill Maher would be moved by the spirit to call her the c-word?

A private citizen should never be called a sl*t by a public figure, and a public figure should think twice before calling another public figure the c-word.

Bottom line: Let`s treat women with respect
