Sam Batt and The Hammer Discuss The Changing Face of The Music Industry
Back in the 70`s and 80`s bands and artists had to persuade an "A & R" man to sign them to a major record label, to have any chance of a hit record! Even then, the artist/band would be lucky to get 4 or 5% of the total income, so could find themselves at the top of the charts and still having nothing to show for it.
These days, artists can make an album at home, promote it on Youtube and Itunes, network on social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter, and have a hit single with NO record company in sight!
One such artist is singer/songwriter Sam Batt.
Whilst living in the south of England, she has just topped an indie chart in Los Angeles after the listening audience and station noticed what a talent she had. Tonight we chat to Sam about her life, her music and the ongoing changes and challenges of the modern music industry.
