Obama "Big Stick" No. 1: No Doubling Tax Rates on Student Loans

Obama "Big Stick" No. 1: No Doubling Tax Rates on Student Loans

By S Renee Greene

President Obama says he is not signing off on a bill to increase student loan interest rates. No way. No how. No interest rate increase.

Period.

A memo from the Budget Office explains that the GOP plan (as supported by the "$21-million-dollar Man", Mitt Romney) includes an attempt to repeal the Prevention and Public Health Fund, created to help prevent disease, detect it early, and manage conditions before they become severe. Women, in particular, will benefit from this Prevention Fund, which will provide for hundreds of thousands of screenings for breast and cervical cancer."

As a woman who has had to use these services at John C Lincoln though the fund and Susan G Komen, I absolutely and vehemently disagree with this low-hanging fruit political tactic. And even if I had not used the services of this fund, I still would be pissed about it.

The President is not about to let them use women`s health services in their "imaginary" [but our very REAL War on Women] as leverage to keep student loan interest rates low.

It appears that the Republican Party has no qualms whatsoever about leveraging anything in the Budget that benefits women, children, minorities, the handicapped and disabled, the mentally challenged, the poor, and senior citizens in order to push their greedmongering and selfish so-called "values" through Congress.

Though President Obama has had to contend with an obstructionist GOP and Blue Dog Congress that doesn`t care whom they hurt as long as they get their way, it says more than enough about what happens when "The 99" do not understand that when Presidents change hands, so must Congress.

The 99 does the hiring and firing in DC. Period.

In Mid-terms 2010, we did not put the necessary people in place to back President Obama by a show of voter turnout, so he was left in the conniving thieving GOPs little unscrupulous hands for two more years. If he wins again in November (and by all estimations so far, he will), let us not make that same mistake in Mid-terms 2014.

If your vote doesn`t count any other time of the year or in an entire decade, those are the two times that it does count. National and Mid-term Elections, every four years.

The Founding Fathers absolutely did set this nation up to be run by a majority rule.

Got to give the people what they want.
