Pizza Patron Offers Free Pizza! Catch: You Have To Order In Spanish Amigo!
"Want a free pizza? All you have to do is ask at one pizza chain. However, there`s a catch. You have to ask in Spanish.
In Pizza Patron`s kitchen, cooks knead 120 crusts each hour, management said. They`re always prepping for the next big rush. On June 5, 2012, all Pizza Patron restaurants expect enormous crowds. For three hours that day (5 p.m. to 8 p.m.), the restaurant is giving away free large pizzas."
Hispanics make up about 70 percent of Pizza Patron`s customer base, and of course they aren`t complaining about the promotion.
But a few non-Spanish-speaking folks grumble that it`s discriminatory and an insult to Americans who speak only English.
You don`t have to be a rocket scientist or a linguist to learn how to say "I want a large pepperoni pizza" in Spanish. If you muttered "Yo quiero large pepperoni pizza", I`m sure you would qualify for the free pie.
Pizza Patron`s promotion isn`t racist or unfair to folks who don`t speak Spanish, the pizza company is trying to strengthen ties with the Latino community and have a little fun in the process.
It`s not like Pizza Patron has signs inside their restaurants warning "We serve only Spanish-speaking customers." Loosen up and learn how to speak the magic phrase in Spanish; I would learn how to say "I want a large pizza" in Chinese for a free pizza.
Pizza is a fun food that brings people together, I hope Americans from every ethnicity will take advantage of this terrific Pizza Patron promotion.
