Virginia Church Displays Over 6,000 Flags To Honor Our Fallen Heroes

By Robert Paul Reyes

"A Virginia church celebrating Memorial Day by displaying more than 6,400 U.S. flags said they are honoring those who lost their lives in recent wars.

The Rev. Jim Sell of the Eastern Shore Chapel on Laskin Road in Virginia Beach said the church compiled a book with the names of all U.S. service members who lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan and the flags are a tribute to them, WAVY-TV, Virginia Beach, reported Monday."

Too many churches, especially those of the evangelical variety, try to equate patriotism with spirituality. But I believe the Rev. Sell is trying to honor our fallen service members who have lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Eastern Shore Chapel has a history with the Navy, and the pastor isn`t exploiting Memorial Day to garner publicity for his church.

I wish churches would minister to soldiers when they return from serving America, they should provide our returning heroes with anything they might need to make their transition smooth.

The least we can do is fly a flag in their honor, my American flag is up all year long.
