Don Rickles Compares Obama To Janitor! That's Humor, Not Racism!

By Robert Paul Reyes

"Don Rickles nearly hijacked the American Film Institute`s tribute to Shirley MacLaine on Thursday night at Sony Pictures Studios, unleashing a trademark barrage of insults that took aim at President Obama, Warren Beatty, Jack Nicholson and the honoree herself.

`I shouldn`t make fun of the blacks,` Rickles said, and then proceeded to do just that: `President Obama is a personal friend of mine. He was over to the house yesterday, but the mop broke.`

The black-tie crowd, gathered to celebrate MacLaine, the 40th recipient of the AFI`s Life Achievement Award, alternately gasped at the 86-year-old comic`s put-downs and then found themselves laughing and applauding."

No one, not the president, not the Pope, not your local parish priest should be exempt from ridicule - especially coming from a comic.

A comedian has a special dispensation from God Almighty to spray his machine gun fire indiscriminately. Political correctness is anathema to any funnyman worth his salt. A stand-up comic who tiptoes around controversial subjects should be booed off the stage.

Don Rickles, who is so old that he spits out maggots when he coughs, wouldn`t know political correctness if it crapped all over him. That`s why he is so outrageously funny, unlike the comics of today who would rather wet their drawers on stage than make racially-tinged jokes.

There was nothing improper about Rickles` Obama joke; I would have joined in on the applause.

A comic has every right to joke about Obama`s nationality (if he can determine where the president was born), and his ethnicity (he`s biracial, not black).
