English Town Of Shitterton Takes A Lot Of Crap For Its Unique Name

By Robert Paul Reyes

"Shitterton, a hamlet in Dorset, has been voted the most unfortunate name in Britain, announced Wednesday.

In fact, Dorset -- a county better known for its beautiful coast, the old city of Dorchester and the countryside described by novelist Thomas Hardy -- had three places in the top 10, making it the loser among counties, the Dorset Echo reported. Scratchy Bottom was in the No. 2 spot, while Happy Bottom just scraped into the top 10."

I live in Lynchburg, VA, an unfortunate name for a city, because it conjures images of lynchings. But I have to admit that Shitterton takes the cake, it`s really a crappy name.

To make matters worse, Shitterton lies in the Piddle Valley. England is a miserable place, with the fog and the never-ending rain, but it doesn`t deserve such wretched names for its cities and villages.

I bet the citizens of Shitterton have taken a lot of crap over the years; they really need to change the name of their hamlet. It might do wonders for their tourism industry if they change their name to "Paradise" or "Happy Valley."
