David Randolph and Artists Discuss September 11 Impact at the New Way Festival

By SOP newswire

We can make the best of our lives in the worst of times, according to David James Randolph and artists on display at the New Way Fest September 7-9, 2012.

On the eve of the eleventh anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the United States, Dr. Randolph is hosting the eighth annual festival featuring the painting of John Skaggs, the poetry of David Madgalene and other artists at the Albany United Methodist Church in Albany in the San Francisco Bay Area of California. Host Pastor Sam Park will preside at the worship on Patriot Sunday that is a time of remembrance and renewal observed annually on the Sunday before September 11th, which falls this year on September 9th.

Dr. Randolph preaches on this theme relating Biblical wisdom and that of Kurt Vonnegut, and other artists. Excerpts from the sermon, short films and other worship resources are found at readyfor911patriotsunday.blogspot.com

John Skaggs` painting of the Twin Towers under attack and the Emergency Workers responding draws on Randolph`s book "More Candles in the Dark" which offers lessons learned from individuals and groups on and since 9/11/2001. Mollie Hazen, Kirk Lumpkin, Lyn Talkovsky and Rebecca Skaggs are featured artists. Books by Randolph and Madgalene are available from Amazon.com.

David Madgalene launches his new book "Call Down the Angel" with readings from this ringing affirmation of faith and hope. Madgalene is leading the San Francisco Beat Museum Festival on Beat Spirituality in connection with Michael Rothenberg and 100 Thousand Poets for Change on September 29, 2012.

This festival is part of an ongoing study of faith and art since 9/11/2001 carried out by Dr. Randolph in connection with CARE, Center for Art, Religion and Education at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley and others.
