Hot New Trend: Do It Yourself Obituary

"Funeral homes in South Florida say one of the hottest trends in `pre-need` funeral planning is do-it-yourself obituaries.

Rick Waites, director of Palm Beach National Chapel in Lake Worth, said he is getting more customers who have the obit ready."



This is an excellent idea, and I think it`s going to catch on, and not only with writers.

I won`t leave it to others to decide what the highlights of my life are, and who the dear ones I am leaving behind are. In my obit I will mention that I am survived by my pooch Mandy and my cat Ebony, and I won`t mention most of my family members.

I wrote the bio for the Web sites I write for, it follows that I should write my own mini-bio (obituary.)

My writing style reveals what kind of person I am, why should I leave such an important task to somebody else?
