Was Einstein an Atheist?
The faith of some of the more crusading fundamental atheists has no doubt been bolstered by a letter written by Einstein, in which he said, "The word god is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honorable, but still primitive legends which are nevertheless pretty childish. No interpretation no matter how subtle can (for me) change this." It is being heralded by some as evidence for a denial of the existence of God, but according to best-selling author, Ray Comfort, "This letter is consistent with the beliefs Einstein held throughout his life. He had previously stated, `I have repeatedly said that in my opinion the idea of a personal God is a childlike one.`"
Comfort said, "He was angered by those who alleged that he was an atheist, saying, `In view of such harmony in the cosmos which I, with my limited human understanding, am able to recognize, there are yet people who say there is no God. But what really makes me angry is that they quote me for the support of such views.` In his book, The God Delusion, atheist Richard Dawkins, does what angered Einstein, in saying that he was an atheist. When asked if he had a belief in God, Einstein replied, `I am not an atheist.` He even said, `The fanatical atheists are like slaves who are still feeling the weight of their chains which they have thrown off after hard struggle. They are creatures who -- in their grudge against traditional religion as the `opium of the masses` -- cannot hear the music of the spheres.` Despite this, fanatical atheists still claim him as one of their own. An undeterred Richard Dawkins says, `Along with various other sources, this letter finally confirms that Einstein was, in every realistic sense of the word, an atheist.`"
Comfort co-authored a new book with an aerospace engineer, called, Made in Heaven that shows even more than the harmony in creation, of which Einstein spoke. According to the author, it reveals (in detailed color) how science has shamelessly stolen from God`s creation, and yet has refused to give Him attribution. Engineers and inventors have long examined God`s creation to understand and copy complex, proven mechanics of design in something known as Biomimicryâ„¢. Much of this inspiration is increasingly drawn from amazing aspects of nature, including insects to plants to man in search of wisdom and insight. We are surrounded daily by scientific advancements that have become everyday items -- from Velcro, to cat`s eyes lighting the night road, to barbed wire and many other "inventions," simply because man is copying from God`s incredible creation, without acknowledging the Creator. One reviewer said of the book, "It is the most compelling visual presentation of the creation model I have seen..."
Comfort added, "I sent a signed copy along with a fruit basket to Richard Dawkins when he was recently at UCLA. I want him to know that I care about him despite his constant preaching of bogus science, lying about Einstein being an atheist, and poisoning our youth against the faith that tells them to love their enemies. He should be in England, trying to clean up his own back yard -- where militant Islam`s aim is to politically take over his country. But I guess speaking out publically about a violent religion takes courage, and it`s nowhere near as popular or as lucrative as his regular tours of the U.S."
