Lady In Labor, Water Had Broken, Votes On Way To Hospital! Vote!
"The contractions were coming five minutes apart, her water had broken, but a local woman took a detour while en route to deliver her first child, a daughter.
Galicia Malone, 21, popped into Precinct 88 around 8:30 a.m., to cast her vote at the aptly named New Life Celebration Church, in south suburban Dolton.
She finished voting, then drove herself to the hospital."
According to Wikipedia in the United States 2008 presidential election turnout was only 63 percent, and a pathetic 35-40 percent for the 25-35 age group.
Getting young people to vote is as difficult as convincing them to go to a Neil Diamond concert or a dentist.
Galicia was eager to vote for the first time, and she wasn`t about to let a small thing like giving birth get in the way. I wish young people would realize that voting for the first time is almost as thrilling as losing your virginity. I exaggerate, but it will be a moment that you will remember for the rest of your life.
I admit sometimes voting is as unpleasant as getting a flu shot, but we should vote for the lesser of two evils. How can we complain about the direction our political leaders are taking this country, if we didn`t take the time to vote?
I hope that citizens with petty excuses for not voting will read this article. This woman`s water had broken, but she took a detour from going to the hospital to vote.
And you can`t vote because it might rain... Put your raincoat on, don your big girl panties and head to the polling place.
Congratulation to Malone on the birth of her first child, and kudos to her for participating in the electoral process.
