Are You Suffering Post-Election Depression Over Obama's Victory?

By Robert Paul Reyes

"Dr. Linda Reiss, a psychologist in Minneapolis, said there will likely be some people who will experience a bit of post-election depression. In some cases, it extends beyond disappointment over the election results.

Anger over a candidate or an issue winning or losing can subconsciously trigger other emotions that have been buried, some deep disappointment that occurred when we were much younger or even when we were children. The day after the election can remind us of how we felt at other times in our lives when we felt those close to us where not making rational decisions."

Some conservative pundits sound like Old Testament prophets, weeping and wailing and gnashing their teeth, warning that Obama`s re-election victory means the end of democracy and the beginning of a New World Order.

But it`s not just the pundit class who are donning sackcloth and ashes, many regular folks are severely depressed by the election results.

My default mode is cynicism, and I didn`t have a dog in the fight; I`m in my usual cranky mood. But to my friends and family members who are distraught over Romney`s loss, all I have to say is: Chill out!

Obama`s victory has nothing to do with your first dance in high school when every girl you asked to dance with you turned you down.

Do something fun, drink a glass of wine, go to a movie, or go for a walk on the beach, life is still worth living even though Obama the Wimp and Biden the Clown will remain in power for four more years.

Wow four more years, have a shot of whisky as well!
